📊 The QS global University rankings came out yesterday with the UK taking 3 of the top 5 slots. Like every year there are winners and losers, so here’s how to react if your numbers have dropped…

🎓 University ranking is still the top criteria for Chinese students, but it’s not the only one.

📉 If your institution suffered a drop, here are the three things you can do to make sure you stand out as you start a new recruitment cycle:

  1. 📱 Get on top of the social media buzz immediately. Alumni will very likely be defending you as a university. After all, the quality of their university reflects on them and they’ll give some real insight into what matters apart from the ranking.
  1. 📊 Get on top of your conversion data. Look for popular courses with a good student experience which can count for more than the overall university ranking.
  1. 🎯 Tighten up your targeting. “Chinese students” is no longer targeting criteria. Learn to understand the profile and motivations of students coming to your institution and create stories that connect with that niche. Remember that any niche in China will be 10 times or more the size of the equivalent UK audience.

🤝 If you need any help with any of these steps, Emerging Comms have been successfully helping UK universities even outside of the prestigious Russell group for almost a decade.
